F.A.Q.
Why should I get a massage?
Massage can be beneficial to you for many reasons. Most people know about relieving stress, but I can also help you rid yourself of chronic pain and soreness, achieve greater athletic performance, and recover from injuries from a sport. Other reasons to get a massage are: greater circulation, mental clarity and many other benefits.
What are adhesions? Why do I get them?
Adhesions can happen from injuries and more commonly from repetitive motions. When doing a repetitive motion a muscle can "adhere" or "stick" to a bone in order to make that motion easier. While it may help to make that motion easier, it also shortens the muscle making you less flexible and more prone to injury. I break these adhesions, helping the body to recover.
How do muscle tears and scar tissues occur?
People tear muscles more often than they realize. Often it stems from not stretching or not warming up a muscle properly and then doing something physically demanding. Scar tissues are the results of tearing. Cross fiber friction and some other techniques help to break up the scars, allowing the muscle full range of motion again.
When should I not get a massage?
The reasons not to get a massage are commonly called "contraindications."
General contraindications are:
- Inflammatory conditions: These generally should get ice and be worked around with light pressure.
- Varicose veins: I would just work around these, but a nutritional supplement with vitamin C and bioflavinoids could be useful.
- Blood clots: A doctor's permission is needed in this case.
- Cardiac conditions: When controlled they should be fine.
- Diabetes: We would have to be careful and proceed cautiously.
- Local or systemic infections: I would need a doctor's approval.
- Infectious skin diseases: Again, I would need a doctor's approval.
- A more detailed list can be found here.
Do I have to get naked?
I will never ask you to do something you are not comfortable with. I do use a cream for a skin lubrication. Obviously clothing would be a barrier. Whatever is not being worked on is being covered by a sheet.
Will it hurt?
I will do my best to limit pain, but it can be painful at times. Sometimes to get to certain problem areas, you may become very uncomfortable, but with breathing and imaging it is very bearable. Some of my clients call it, "hurts so good." I will monitor the situation to make sure it is not too much.
What is the difference between massages?
Other than what is stated on the massages, I believe massage therapists will use a hodgepodge of techniques in their massage. I will use the techniques that I have learned formally and through my own trial and error to give you the best massage that I can.
Where are you located?
I am located in the corner 2 story building of the Asheville Square at 2129 S. Oneida St. Green Bay, WI 54304 #120
Can I be naked on the table?
State laws prevent this from happening and it also tends to make me uncomfortable.
Do you do a genital massage?
I will not touch the sexual organs. It is illegal and I think demeaning to ask me.
